Cases

1. A 35 year old woman with four living children and history of all vaginal deliveries attended gynecological outpatient department with complaints of pelvic heaviness, a dragging sensation in the vagina, protrusion of a mass coming down from the vagina and back ache. On examination the condition was diagnosed as prolapse of uterus. With your knowledge of anatomy answer the following questions.
  • Anatomical position of non-gravid uterus
  • Peritoneal relations of uterus
  • Supports of uterus
  • Arterial supply of uterus
  • Lymphatic drainage of uterus(1+4+2+1+2=10)

2. A 65 year old man presented with dilated veins around the umbilicus and vague pain in the epigastric region. He also had a history of bleeding per rectum. Radiological examination revealed an abnormal growth of the ‘head and neck’ of the pancreas. Based on the anatomical knowledge answer the following questions
  • Name the structure that would have been compressed by the pancreatic growth to cause the clinical finding
  • Give the formation, growth, relation and termination of the structure
  • Name all the possible sites, where there could be dilated veins, giving the names of the veins involved with reasons and clinical Implications
  • What are the other structures which are likely to compressed by the growth
  • Mention the sources of development of pancreas (1+4+3+1+1=10)

3. A patient was brought to casualty following a deep stab injury on the left side of back with complaints of passing blood in urine.  Answer the following questions:
  • Surface marking of left kidney on the back
  • Mention its coverings
  • Relations of left kidney
  • Arterial supply
  • Development (2+1+4+1+2 = 10)

4. A 35 years old lady was admitted to the hospital with pain abdomen and vomiting: On examination a small lemon sized swelling was noticed on upper medial aspect of right thigh, infero-lateral to the pubic tubercle.  The patient told she is having the swelling for the last four months.  With your knowledge in anatomy answer the following questions.
  • What is the swelling in the front of thigh.
  • Why did the patient present with abdominal pain and vomiting
  • Describe the boundaries and contents of femoral triangle
