The newest and perhaps the worst microbial threat to the society is Carbapenem( eg: imipenem, meropenem, doripenem, and ertapenem) Resistant Enterobacteriaceae ( eg: Escherichia coli, Enterobacter aerogenes, Enterobacter cloacae complex, Klebsiella pneumoniae, or Klebsiella oxytoca). Otherwise known as CRE.
They are called ' Triple Threat ' to the society, because :
1. They are resistant to almost all antibiotics
2. Have a high mortality rate killing almost 50% of infected patients
3. Can easily transfer their antibiotic resistance to other bacteria.
